Sunday Morning

Good morning. It is Sunday. Today should be the day Gido comes home. Dustin spent the night. He is still sleeping. I am having my coffee and trying to get some laundry done. Gido usually spends a lot of time on the livingroom couch, as does the dog, so I am going to wash the blanket that they sleep on to freshen it up. Max still has his cone on. He has an appointment at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning to have the button removed. He is kind of clumsy with it on, so I am a little concerned about how these two guys are going to share the space. Isis is less than ten pounds, so she will be able to sleep on Gido no problem. That will be the best medicine for him. It is going to be a busy week. Gloria has an appointment with the kidney specialist on Tuesday, and then I am scheduled for my shoulder ultrasound on Friday. I got a call on the apartment last night. The sign has only been up for a couple of days, so that is encouraging. I'm going to have to get over there and straighten up. I think I will also try to get out for a run today. Well, time to get at it. Ciao.

Aaliyah

This photo was taken last Sunday. Underneath all that blue clothing is our baby girl. She is getting bigger everyday. She is going to be tall like her mother. She has started to smile and laugh at her Gido. I think she likes his deep voice, or maybe she just thinks the moustache looks funny. With everything that has been going on, one of the things that we have been most grateful for is all of our grandchildren. They are what keeps us going.

A Lesson On Trying To Be A Better Person, For Roxy

There are many little sayings that have been passed on from one person to another to wish luck or good fortune. One of these is "see a penny, pick it up and all day long you'll have good luck" and another, although it is not a saying, is that if a bird poops on you it is very lucky. (Personally I think that someones mother made this one up.) Anyway, this story is a little bit about luck and a little bit about trying to be a better person.

A woman was walking her dog around the lake one morning. The dog had a big cone on his head because he had surgery on his eye. This collar is large and makes it difficult to maneuver around objects. Because this woman was Canadian, she was walking on the right side of the sidewalk. A few minutes into her walk, another woman crossed the street with her dog and baby in a jogging stroller. Why she didn't wait two minutes until the first lady had passed we will never know. She then moved right in front of the first lady and blocked her path. The first lady attempted to move her dog into the street so they could pass, but there were too many cars coming to do it safely. The second lady said "move to the left and go around, that would make more sense!" The first lady did so, even though she really wanted to say "walk on the right b*tch! Do you drive like that?!" Instead she closed her eyes and said a silent prayer of good wishes "May a thousand birds shit on your head."

How zen is that?!

Saturday the 21st

It has been a very busy week. I don't know why. I haven't worked any more days and the house isn't any cleaner. I am trying to avoid taking anything to help me sleep. I am afraid of developing dependency or tolerance. I get about six hours of sleep a night. The boys from Bermuda are moving out of the apartment today. We will miss them very much. They are the kindest, most considerate young men that we could ever have hoped to meet. Gido has been very busy. He has had a couple of doctor appointments and he has started to replace the upstairs windows since he returned home from Saskatchewan. He finished the bathroom one on Friday with the help of Demetrius this time. Max also had an appointment for his eye this week. He has a very slow healing time because of the long term prednisone use, so the vet doesn't want to remove the button yet. Max is so easy going that it doesn't really faze him much. Occasionally, he pretends that he doesn't know the limitations of the Elizabethan collar and he hits everything with it. I know when I am being manipulated though, and he will smarten up when I tell him to. Did I tell you that Max has lost weight since Gido has been taking him for an extra walk around the lake every day? He is down to 116 pounds now. Friday nights are still sleepover night for Dustin and Demetrius. Saturday mornings are still exhausting! I just took Demetrius home to his mom. He is at the stage where he can't be out of sight for a minute. I have got to take a shower before I go for a run this morning. I also plan to clean the house, do the laundry and rake up the leaves from last fall. The weather is gorgeous today. Ciao for now.

I ate a bag of Bridge Mix before supper last night. It takes five hours of running to zero out that many calories. First hour done!

I got my first cold of the season yesterday at work. It is the cold that makes your lungs feel heavy, your throat raw and your voice squeaky. I have never had my voice go wierd like that. I wanted to take full advantage at first. Usually, I am kind of quiet when I am working...
(waiting here for someone to yell bullshit!) Actually, I am, now. I didn't used to be. So yesterday I talked a lot. Then I came home, walked the dog, ate supper and crawled into bed. This morning I ate breakfast, walked the dog and then went to bed. This afternoon, I ate lunch, blogged and now I think I will go back to bed.
My son is back in Saskatchewan. He left his life here to begin a more grown up version of it there. He will begin work on Monday with a company that has been a very big part of our lives. It is a company with a future for the kids. I will miss him, but I know that he is doing the right thing for his family.

Oh Dolly!

G has been getting lots of attention from strangers checking out that rack! (It is actually Aaliyah hiding under there.)

Once Upon A Time In Ottawa

First morning back from first birthday celebrations for #1's #1. It was a week long festival that began with the adoring masses gathering to shower the celebrant with presents and well wishes. The young man, wise beyond his year, cried until he was picked up and cuddled by the young and beautiful women that had been summoned for the occasion. Older men noticed and attempted to learn the strategy, but alas, fell short. The desired results diminish rapidly with age. On day two, the little king was placed on a throne in the galley of his castle so that he could oversee the destruction of existing door and window and installation of a new patio door. He was pleased. The new trim around the door needed to be painted, and so, of course, did the dining room. A more regal color was chosen and applied. It was a wonderful week, and as the servants retreated to their humble abode, they already looked forward to their next visit.
