Attack Of The Mall People

Time for Botox again. Those little furrows between my eyebrows make everyone think I am crabbier than I am. Sometimes I'm crabby, but not all the time. Gido is like that too. Today at the mall a woman pushed a cart out of her way and kept on walking. The cart rolled off the sidewalk onto the road and one of the wheels got caught in the storm drain. Anyway, Gido stopped to wrestle the cart out of the drain. The lady, and I use the term very loosely, turned and said "Sorry about that!" She was about forty feet away from Gido. He didn't say anything, but he did look in her direction. He could see her lips were moving, but he wasn't paying attention to what she was saying. So she turns to me and sarcastically says "Oh ya, I did that on purpose. He is looking at me like I did that on purpose! There is a reason that guys like him get shot!" Get Shot?!! So I say "He can't hear you. He is partially deaf." She says, "That is no excuse." (It wasn't a big lie. He is a man. They are often partially deaf when they hear a woman's voice.) And then she drove away.

Wiener?!!

An intent and slightly perplexed look captured in a moment of time. Is the boy focused on his mother, or is it a wiener? Whatever it is, he is living in the moment. He does not waste his life on wishes or regrets. Think about it.

Why I Write A Blog (In A Thousand Words Or Less)

I told one of my girlfriends that my daughter writes a blog. She asked the same thing that I did when I heard that word for the first time. "What's a blog?" So I told her that it is, basically, an online diary. She keeps a daily diary, she says, but it isn't something she could image doing for just anyone to see. I get that, I felt the same way at first. I worried a bit about my daughter. Worried about who might read her, worried about what she might say, worried that she might use swear words. And then, in true fashion, jumped into the deep end of the pool with her. I do everything she does. I am like the chick who stalked her roommate in Single White Female. I do it, not to annoy her, but because I think that she is the coolest person I know. It was her who I ran with first, which is only fitting, because it was me who she ran with first. Even though we are miles apart, with this blog I can still share everything I want to with my babies, my family and my friends.

Dustin and Grandma

Race Day

The pictures don't do the day justice. You don't have to look too close at the first one to see fear. I must have gone to the bathroom to pee about twenty times before we left the house. Even as we were leaving, I said "one more minute, I have to pee!" Gido said, "no you don't, you just think you have to." I was so nervous. I knew where I was going, but that was it. Didn't know anything else after that. My friend Stephanie told me to keep my own pace and not to try to run at the same speed as some of the other runners, and that I would probably pass a lot of them on the way back. She was right. I ran with Cheryl and Miriam. I couldn't believe my luck to find them in that crowd. We ran well together and we had a few good laughs. Stephanie even joined us for a few minutes. She wasn't able to run the full marathon today because she injured her heal. I loved running across the bridge, the weather was good and the company even better. My official time was 1:12:07:.4. I placed 974th out of 1238 runners. The very, very best part of the day was that Gido and Max were there with me.

Great News!

Message on phone yesterday from Gido's doctor. Biopsy results in. Great news. Lymph nodes clear, margins clear, tumor's Gleason score downgraded to 8! Tumor had grown right up to capsule, but did not break through. It still had normal cells around it. Yay! Now we just need the PSA to be nil. Gido will take the blood test late next week.

Three Cats and One Dog

My house is kind of clean right now. It is never totally clean,...too much animal hair and dander. Mmm...animal hair and dander, ...I bet you want to come here to eat, don't you? I thought so. Anyway, it is just about as clean as it gets. I thought it would be cool to have a maid service once, but then I heard a maid tell a lady that it was a pain to clean her place because of the animal hair (and dander!). That wrecked it for me. I don't want to spend two hours cleaning the house just so it is clean enough for the cleaning service to clean. I usually clean when I know there is company coming, and tonight it is Gido's bosses from Saskatchewan. (I hope that they aren't wearing black.)

TGIF

The weekend is here. No big plans. We spend a lot of time just laying around. We have about five movies that we bought and haven't gotten around to watching yet. I hope the weather is going to be good for a run. Ciao!

"Having Fun With The New Web Cam" or "How I Spent My Afternoon!"

(Not Quite) Race Ready

My pin-up boy is going to get the staples removed from his midsection today. One less irritant. Other than that we haven't got anything else planned. It looks like a nice day, so I will probably go for a bit of a run. The 10km is in two weeks. I expect my time to be about 90 minutes. I run slow, ...and some of my parts wobble to and fro. I have never run 10km without a coffee break. Should be interesting.

Post Surgical Follow-Up

There should be a suture between those toes. There was one when I first removed the bandage. I think that Max thought he could avoid a return visit to the vet if he removed it himself. It looks really good though and I think it will heal completely.

My Bathroom Window

I never did get around to posting the final pictures of the bathroom window that Gido put in before his surgery. The privacy film was bought at Home Depot and only took about twenty minutes to put up. Gloria thought it was real stained glass when she first saw it. Now I just need to do a good spring cleanup.
But not today!

Shake That For Me

Just got back from my run this morning. I like to listen to music because it seems to inspire me to either run faster or longer. Today I ran about five kilometers before I had to walk it out a bit. The music I have found most motivating is considerably raunchy. I wouldn't listen to it in the house and, in fact, used to have several fights with my son about it. I hated it when he played it. I think he must have thought it was kind of funny that I was asking him for it now. I copied the playlist for my daughter and I sometimes wonder if she has had a chance to run to it yet. I wonder if she was a little shocked at the content.

I miss my kids.

My Little Lemon

Poor baby. Today I take off the bandage and I hope that it looks good. There is one stich, but the vet wants to take it out on Wednesday. Max has been very good about leaving it alone. He will be on antibiotics for a few more weeks. Wish him luck!

Monday

Monday morning was a little hectic at our house. I thought that I would take Max to the vet to get his eye checked and cone removed and then we would come home, go for a run and then take a nap with Gido.

Unfortunately, my poor little guy had to stay at the vet hospital. His eye surgery was a success, but his foot required exploratory surgery to see why it wasn't healing. He wasn't very happy. He was pretty dopey when I went to pick him up, but they let me take him because they knew he would tear the place apart trying to get home. I couldn't lift him up onto the couch when we got home. It took a couple of hours for the drugs to wear off. (I haven't told him yet that we have to go back today to have the bandaid replaced.) We received the most beautiful flowers and fruit baskets from our friends. We told Max that they were for him!
